How long will an inmate sit in jail after the commensurate end of their sentence?

On an 8 year sentence for a felony DWI, if straight+good+work time will equal the entire sentence in two months, but having been recently (August) denied parole, how long will he wait before TDCJ sees this? Will he end up serving time for free?

He will serve until he is granted parole or serves his time as required under the law.

He'll never serve time for FREE unless he serves more than 8 years flat. The rule you are thinking about actually says that they can keep him in jail if there is GOOD CAUSE, which includes lack of rehabilitation. Check the TDC website and it will tell you when he is expected to get out.
