After One Year Legal Separation What Happens?

Business 5 views 1 answers
I have been legally separted for close to 10 years and am now ready to get a divorce. Someone told me that after the first year of being legally separated you are automatically divorced unless one of you contests it. Is this true. Also, everything that was written up in the legal separation was agreed upon. Can there be changes made to it or is it cut and dried?

If you have been legally separated for more than a year and have substantially complied with the settlement agreement you can file for a divorce on the grounds of separation, and it will be all but impossible for anyone to contest it. As to changes in the settlement, those would have to be negotiated.
