You may file for a dissolution of marriage in the Freeport Courthouse 15 North Galena Avenue Freeport, IL 61032 . I suggest that you talk with a local Freeport family attorney, first. Trying to navigate the legal process without help is like trying to do surgery on yourself. It is not a good idea.

Legal Separation in Illinois is not what most non-lawyers believe it to be. It is not the first phase of divorce, nor is it a simple document that is filed with the court to define your marital relationship.status. Please go to this link http://www.civilizeddivorce.com/lawyer-attorney-1552208.html#q4 and scroll down to the fourth myth busting topic "When Does the Legal Separation Take Place?" This should explain what you need to know. Most people are surprised to learn that Legal Separation does not live up to its reputaton and decide to file for divorce instead. At least 90% of those that actually start out filing a legal separation will convert it to a divorce before the case is over.
