Red Light Violation on Right turn (Federal way) - BS Pacific HWY S SB @ S320th ST, Need Help - how it fight

9 views 2 answers
I was Driving from Pacific Hwy to 320th, took a right turn on red right,(photo enforced) I failed to come to a complete stop before making the turn (ticket says the same, video showing that too). I was driving in very very slowly, and there was no vehicles in the intersection ( that is clear in video). This is my first violation, they are fined me $124, is there a way to fight this, any way to reduce this fine? Any help on this ?

Yes, this can be solved. It has nothing to do with the video, and a lot to do with the foundations presented for the evidence. An attorney who handles traffic matters can help you, so long as it is still timely and you didn't just pay the fine. Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell

All tickets issued as a result of a traffic camera are essentially expensive parking tickets. They are not reported ot either DOL or your insurance company. Thus, unlike most traffic infractions it makes little economic sense to fight them. You will pay more for an attorney than the face value of the ticket and there is no risk of increased insurance rates or other hidden costs (other than collection fees if you choose to do nothing). On the other hand, there are lots of issues with the "automated traffic safety cameras" and a traffic ticket lawyer can often fight these. Depending on how valuable your time is it probably makes the most sense to request mitigation (admit that you committed the offense and ask the court to reduce the fine) by mail if your court allows this. The fact that there were no vehicles around is not a defense to the ticket (you are required to make a full stop on a red light every time) but it may sway the judge to give you a break on the fine.
