Depends on whether you are adjudicated guilty or not guilty.
My comments are not intended to establish an attorney-client relationship, are not confidential, and are not intended to constitute legal advice. Proper legal advice can only be given by an attorney who agrees to represent you, who reviews the facts of your specific case, who does not have a conflict of interest preventing the representation, and who is licensed to practice in the appropriate jurisdiction where the legal issue may be filed or in the state where the law applies.
I'll assume this is your first DWI, given that you do not know what to expect when you go to court.
At your first court date, the judge will take your plea -- meaning you will either assert to the Court either that you are "guilty" or "not guilty." If you do not have an attorney at that time, the judge will likely make inquiry as to whether you are going to hire an attorney, or if you allege that you are indigent the court will determine whether or not to appoint a public defender.
If you plead not guilty, the court will set a trial date.
If you plead guilty, you must go through a screen before the court can sentence you. Different courts handle this differently. Some will have someone there to perform the screening right away, others will have you report back on another day for screening and then sentencing.
In addition, you may wish to ask for a hearing before Drivers' Control. The officer should have given you that information with the temporary permit, but sometimes people do not read all of the information.
