International student got caught shoplifting

I am an International student (visa F1) that got caught shoplifting at Walmart. I feel horrible about what I did. I was arrested, got my photo taken and fingerprinted. I have not received any paper about the court date or anything esle except the citation. The Police officer was nice, he said that it is just like a speeding ticket. He said that after paying the fine, I should take the ARD class to get it off my record , which employee and such will not be able to see, but the police will always be able to see it. I am planing to transfer to a different school next fall, and I wonder do I have to come back to my home country to apply for new visa and how it will affect me getting a new visa for non immigration (if i pay the fine, take the ARD class, dont get in trouble) Thank you so much

Dear Sir / Madam: You really need to seek immigration counsel BEFORE you plea to any criminal allegations, go to trial, take a deferred sentence/adjudication or do anything else in the criminal matter. While the police officer seemed nice and explained how you get the conviction off your criminal record, you cannot get the conviction off your record for immigration purposes. Moreover, shoplifting is usually considered a Crime Involving Moral Turpitude. This type of crime can be a deportable offense. Also, these types of crimes can prevent you from obtaining new visas and reentering the country. While the shoplifting issues may not get you "in trouble" for criminal purposes, they will likely get you in trouble for immigration. Please see an immigration attorney as soon as possible. *Please note that posting this information does not create an attorney-client relationship.
