While not as bad as a Dishonorable Discharge or a Bad Conduct Discharge, the Other than Honorable (OTH) Conditions Discharge may have an adverse impact on future employment possibilities. This is especially true for almost all government positions. It may also affect a possible teaching license(but check with your state for details). Many, but not all employers, ask a question on the type of discharge. Even If you have the OTH discharge, if you explain the circumstances, there are many employers and some government agencies who will not hold it against you. The key is not to lie about the discharge because that will cause you more problems than the OTH itself.

On OTH discharge will also make you ineligible for many government and VA benefits, including the GI Bill. On the other hand, if you are looking at an OTH discharge in lieu of a court-martial, the effects of an OTH will almost always be better than the effects of having a record of a federal criminal conviction. I would strongly advise talking to your free JAG attorney before you make any decisions on accepting a discharge or waiving an administrative separation board.
