My license was suspended for failure to pay a ticket; it is no longer suspended, what will likely happen when I go to court?

I went to court the first time, and just had to pay $250, but while my license was suspended, I was driving, and now have a second court date; will I just have to pay $250 again, or is there a chance I could get jail time?

It is certainly advisable to contact an attorney. In all likelihood -- if you have no other criminal history -- the prosecutor will offer to amend the criminal charge to a "No Valid Operator's License" Infraction for 350 bucks or so. This is not a criminal charge and would not end up on your record. Again, an attorney would be able to specifically advise you as to your options and the ideal manner in which to navigate your legal issues. Good luck!

Driving with a suspended license is generally a misdemeanor in Washington, punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a $1000 fine. As it's a criminal offense, you should always consult a skilled attorney who practices in that court. Often times, if my clients have their licenses back already, I can get criminal charges such as yours dismissed or amended to non-criminal charges. Call me for your FREE CONSULTATION at 425-424-9401

Its not clear from your question if this is a second DWLS charge or a DWLS because you didn't pay a $250 fine. If this is you first offense and you have your license back a good attorney should be able to work out a favorable outcome for you. However, if this is number two the prosecutor is less likley to be sympathetic. You could end up with a CRIMINAL conviction, jail time, fines and/or probation . Many attorneys will give you a free initial consultation to help you figure out your options.
