If your current prescribed medication is not working, not only is in not against the law, it is highly advisable to suggest to your doctor to try something else.

Nonsense. It is absolutely legal and in fact warranted to ask your doctor all the questions you have and have them answered so that you may make an informed decision about the course of treatment you agree to pursue. It is called "informed consent" and one aspect of that consent is that your questions regarding alternative medications be listened to, evaluated and answered in a way that you are satisfied. If your doctor is non-responsive to your questions, get a second opinion about your medications and treatment you are receiving. This is your right. I hope this helps- Nima Taradji http://personalinjuryattorneyz.com Disclaimer: Please note that this answer does not constitute legal advice. No, No, NO,......When it comes to your health the "law" should have no application to what a good doctor can do for a needing patient. From the "tone" of your question you need to be much more of an avocate for your medical needs. It is your life, take some control and don't be afraid to speak your mind to your doctor. He/she is not God. If you don't speak up how can your feelings ever be heard? Be totally honest with your doctor. He/She should explore alternative medications whenever appropriate. If your doctor is closed minded about trying new medications when your current medication does not seem to be helping you, try seeking a consultation with another doctor. If you have a good doctor he/she should be very receptive to trying new medications in appropriate situations. But, remember, most often the doctor knows more than you do....But not always....Seek a second opinion if you have questions.

Your query suggests to me that you should think about getting another doctor who treats you with respect as an adult. I talk about this extensively in my book, "The Life You Save: Nine Steps to Finding the Best Medical Care -- and Avoiding the Worst" which you can get at Amazon or read the first chapter here: www.lifeyousave.com. I have a whole chapter about finding a primary care doctor and the need for good communications and a good relationship if you are to get effective care. Good luck!
