If you feel you are able to handle your own affairs, you have every right to file a motion to terminate your guardianship. You can do this without a lawyer but it will be difficult if your parents contest. You really ought to retain the services of a lawyer who handles guardianship proceedings. Your case will be heard in Joliet.

Guardianship laws provide certain rights for the ward (the subject of the guardianship) which include an annual evaluation of their mental capacity. You should ask your guardian to file a petition for restoration. You must also be evaluated by a mental health practitioner and a hearing must be conducted to determine what rights, if any, should be restored.

You do have rights, and if you are capable of making reasonable personal and financial decisions, you should be able to seek restoration of your competency, thus terminating the guardianship. You should consult with an attorney who is experienced in guardianship law. You will need a medical report of a physician who is familiar with your care, stating that you are capable of making your own decisions. I think that the process of restoration would be difficult to do without an attorney, especially if your parents oppose.
