my significant other gave me life estate in his house before he became sick and is now in a nursing home. is it my responsibility to keep all his personal belongings, furniture, etc in my house . i did have AIF , but had to give up because of illness...now his daughter is conservator over him. i have asked repeatedly that his personal stuff be moved. can i also charge storage for a boat that i am keeping and payihng taxes and insurance on, but it is in his name. thanks in advance. I am in South Carolina

a life estate can have different conditions. you need to look to the terms of your life estate to see whether any duties call for you to keep his belongings, etc. If it is not mentioned in the life estate document itself then I would argue that you do not have a duty to keep his belongings. However, his daughter as conservator doesn't have a duty to keep them either. What if you move (or pay to have moved) all of his stuff into storage and bill his assets. He should also be paying for the boat if he can afford to do so. who are you going to bill if he doesn't have the funds? his daughter doesn't owe that.
