SHould he just pay the fine and immediately take a defensive driving course? He has a NY license?

I would recommend you contact a criminal defense attorney and discuss this BEFORE paying the ticket. Payment is an admission and a conviction to the offense. 25 mph over the limit could affect his (or yours if you are covering him as an insured) auto insurance rates. Seel advice first. A lawyer may be able to get the charged amended to a lesser offense.

No--he should get a local attorney in NJ to try and knock it down. Joseph A. Lo Piccolo, Esq. Immediate Past President, Criminal Courts Bar Association 11'-12' Hession Bekoff & Lo Piccolo 1103 Stewart Ave, Suite 200 Garden City, NY 11530 516-408-3666 (o) / 516-408-3833 (f) [email protected]

22 year old...25 over...NJ is mostly negotiable and willing to reduce the charge... Despite that fact that NJ tickets won't be reported to NJ, it's hard to advise anyone to "just pay" before at least looking into it further. First speak with a NJ attorney and see what your options are.
