i know that for the u visa it takes more time to get your work permit ,, than with the deferred action. does it affect my eligibility for a U-visa if i apply first for the DACA?

I think you can apply for a visa after getting deferred action relief. But, it isn't easy to do any of this and I would recommend you speak to an immigration lawyer before you do anything. I wish you the best of luck!

I generally have advised people in this situation to move forward on both at the same time. The reason is that I think USCIS will decide the DACA sooner and so the work permit will come sooner. Also, it is generally less time consuming for a laywer to complete a DACA application than a U visa, so that would shave some time off the work permit there as well. The down side is just the legal and filing fees.

Applying for DACA does not prevent you from applying for any other immigration benefits/programs. Hope that helps! Best of luck, -Sanjay A. Paul, Esq. (888) 373-2602 www.dreamlawca.com
