Arrest warrant for a 5 year old payday loan - they are calling from FL - I live in PA. Very very threatening....

I live in PA, and was contact by a "so-called" attorney in FL stating that he is going to put an arrest warrant out for me and charge me with fraud, etc. He mentioned people I know and he called the apartment building where I live and told them that I was going to be arrested and have felony charges pressed on me. The is in regard to an on-line loan that he is saying I received 5 years ago.... I have not heard from them in any other way. Can they issue an arrest warrant?
Only the courts can issue warrants of arrest. It sounds like the statute of limitations has run and a company has been hired to intimidate and scare you into paying. You should immediately hire an attorney and have them put a stop to the harassment and illegal acts. Do not speak with them!
This sounds like the kind of abusive collection activity we frequently encounter with internet payday loans. Remember, there are two kinds of people we encounter in our daily lives: talkers and doers. If they were sincere about having you arrested, why would they call you and tell you so that you could go into hiding from the police?
I have never (in over 20 years of doing this) heard of any company that makes these kind of time-pressure threats that ever would act on them. Whether or not a warrant is a theoretical possiblity is a purely academic question. Based on your description of the abusive collection activity, I would assume that they have no intention of pursuing you. In my opinion, you are dealing with talkers and not doers.

This is an abusive debt collector. There is no debtors prison. You cannot be locked up for defaulting on a loan. Only a court can issue a warrant. You need to speak to an attorney who represents debtors against collection companies.
This is a huge scam that seems to be reaching epidemic proportions. I have spoken with a number of people who have had the same thing done to them.
