Reg: H1 extension wrong validity period

I was working on a H1b visa from 07/1/09 till 06/30/12. My employer filed for an extension for 2 years on 6/1/12 (1 month before my visa expired). I received the approval in Nov 2011. But the start date of the validity period was 11/1/12. When my lawyer contacted USCIS. they responded "for a case of this type the initial validity date is the date of adjudication". Does this mean my H1B status from 7/1/12 till 11/1/12 is valid?
