I was involved in a auto accident, the cop gave me a citation for unsafe lane change. He said it was a solid white line I should not have crossed. However, I did have my left turn signal on 2 change lanes & the other car chose 2 speed up 2 prevent me from coming over causing the accident and damage 2 my driverside door. They had minor damage 2 there front right fender. The cop stated that the person in the other lane/car should have used better discretion 2 yield or not, seeing that my turn signal was on, they chose not 2 yield. I would like 2 know if I can fight the citation, I feel I shouldn't have 2 pay or get points on my license due 2 the other drivers bad choice 2 be selfish by not letting me over. I had enough space 2 switch lanes but soon as I put my signal on the other car sped up
First, I advise that you hire a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. Second, you can fight the citation, but you are in the best position to determine whether it is really worth fighting vs. trying to work out the best deal with the prosecutor. Third, from what you have stated, I have a feeling that you are not going to succeed on trying to defend against the charge, because you state you crossed a solid line (white or yellow, doesn't matter) without legitimate justification (i.e., something other than just wanting to change lanes, such as getting into a turn lane, getting ready to turn onto a street on the other side of the roadway, etc.), and it sounds like the other driver, safely or not, decided to not let you other, which was within their discretion. Whether this last fact would be sufficient to form a defense around is hard to say, but if I were in your position, and this is purely a personal choice, I think I would just try to get the best deal possible, as you were not entirely in the right and the other driver was the one with the citation. Good luck.
Yes, you can fight it if you choose to. It might have an impact on your insurance rates. Please let me know if I can be of assistance. I would be happy to help.

YOu are not allowed to make a lane change over a solid white line. Doesn't matter what the other person did. They had the right of way. It was you that shouldn't have changed lanes.
