The term "Nolle Prosequi" (our dog's name, Nolle the Defender Dog), means that the prosecutor dropped the charges which had been brought against you. Great outcome!
it sounds like the DA dismissed the charge. That is a good thing.
The dismissal is not necessarily dispositive of the whole situation. The DA can revile the case until the statute of limitation has passed. The case can also be reviled as a different charge.
In most cases though, a dismissal by the prosecutor means its over.
That is the type of Disposition that puts great big smiles on Defendants all over Maryland.
It essentially means that the State is not going forward on a prosecution of this matter. Although in many situations, the state is still able to charge the Defendant with the same exact crime again. It usually does not occur. It depends on the circumstances surrounding their decision not to go forward with a prosecution.
That being said, go celebrate. You case got dismissed. :)
Good luck.
Nolle prosequi means that the state declined to prosecute that charge. Probation before judgment means that the court found that there was enough evidence to find guilt, but after making that finding struck it.
I agree with my colleagues. Now you may want to look into having the arrest and court docket expunged from your record so it can't be found in a background search. I would need more facts to see if you are eligible to do it. Expungement papers are available at the clerk's office. A lawyer can easily file it. There are different time requirements and if you want to do it before 3 years runs you will need to attach a waiver form saying you releasae the cops and the state from any lawsuits regarding the incident. Good luck. Call if you wish to discuss. Ed Tydings 301-670-3020
