Hi, Will my insurance go up for a failure to obey a traffic device in NY state?

I was caught doing 46 ina 30, and the cop cited me for failure to obey a traffic device. It is my first ticket, and I'm under my parent's insurance. I pleaded guilty as I was scared and didn't want to let my parents know, and I will pay the fine. I am taking the defensive course offered in NY state to reduce the points. I just want to make sure this will counter act any ptential insurance rate hikes due to my ticket.

I seriously doubt that a plea to this non-speeding infraction is going to result in an increase in your insurance rates, but ultimately it depends on your parents' insurance carrier. It's a good call on your part to take a defensive driving course.

Failure to obey a traffic control device is a moving violation. Unfortunately it may very well have a negative impact on the insurance. Taking the defensive driving course will, however, reduce the points and may be viewed favorably by the insurance carrier.

Where you live, your age, the policy, the insurer, car you are driving...all are part of the equation along with your driving history. There's no way to know exactly what may happen to your insurance, except to say that convictions won't be good for it (speeding worse than the disobey a traffic device) and the defensive driving class may help offset to some extent any damage done by convictions.
