Does child/spousal support get calculated by gross or net income?

I am currently in mediation right now and the mediator calculated support with my gross numbers from this summer while self employed and the rest from the seasonal winter salary. When I was self employed in Europe during the summer I make my bulk of money and she still calculated support with gross income although I will have to pay about 35% in tax still during this fiscal year and social on top of that. Does California law require gross or net income in this circumstance?

California calculates income available for support using gross income. Gross income is generally defined as all income from whatever source derived. If you are self employed, you may want to argue that support should be based on your income, and not on your total revenue. Revenue minus expenses for the business = income.
