You and your fiance need to schedule a consultation with a family immigration attorney in your area. Also, it is best to remain in status while adjusting your status based on a family petition and a family-based application filed in December is unlikely to be complete by February even if the matter is handled by an experienced attorney.
You can get married when ever you want.
You should retain an experienced immigration lawyer, whether myself or one of my colleagues, to review all the facts, advise you, and handle the case.
You should contact an experienced immigration attorney to discuss all the details. Generally speaking, however, someone can apply for permanent resident status based on marriage to a U.S. citizen if the marriage is genuine and he/she entered lawfully with a visa. (Assuming there are no marriage, criminal, etc. issues.) If married to a U.S. citizen, someone may apply for a green card even after he/she fell out of status. That may or may not apply in your situation. You should talk to an experienced immigration attorney to discuss strategies and timing, and whether or not you need to worry about transferring schools. Feel free to contact me or one of my colleagues. (312) 341-9730. Good luck.
You do not need to transfer schools and will likely qualify to adjust your status to that of a permanent resident. However, you should talk to an attorney.
