I parked in a handicapped space in nj and put an expired handicapped sign. I received a ticket. It was a mistake and I am not handicapped. Do i have to go to court eventhough I just want to pay it? will they make me do community service eventhough is my 1st offense?

I believe the first offense is $250. Community service is on a second offense. The ticket indicates whether appearance in mandatory. It likely is required. the Courts frown on such violations.

You will most likely have to go to court but will probably only have to pay a fine. However, the fact that it was a fraudulent use of the placard may be problematic.

That depends on whether they just charged you with the handicapped parking or if they added fictitious decal, for which there is a disordelry persons offense. If it is just for handicap parking then you will just have a $285 fine.
