What does it mean if an s-corp has "merged out"? When is the last time it would be required to file a tax return?

The s-corp merged out in 2010, and yet I am being told that it is still filing tax returns, the latest was for 2011.

If the corporation has merged with another corporation it is no longer a taxpaying entity. Any receipts received in its name should be reported with the surviving company of the merger. Your facts need to be discussed with a tax attorney or CPA to get to the bottom of this since what you state is not possible tax wise.

The "merged-out" (versus the "surviving") corporation may have had some residual income requiring one additional return. You should double check with the corporate CPA for verification.
