I got a PATH fare evasion ticket. What are my options ?

Situation : I scanned my pass and it did not work on NEWPORT PATH station, I had loaded unlimited rides on it. I thought maybe I got the wrong pass, so I went home to see if I left mine there. But the one that I originally had actually had unlimited rides (checked it on the Pass vending machine) . There were no PATH personnel or police on the station. I thought I could go in and ask the question, so I went through the Handicapped turnstile. I was going towards where the PATH police officers generally are, but instead a officer came running from behind and said that I violated the law. They didn't listen to my explanation They gave me a ticket ( cant even read it), and they gave me a court date. I want this ticket to go away. I am ready to pay fines. What do I do next?

This is likely an ordinance already. (if the citation is "2C' it from the criminal code though). It cannot go any lower if it is an ordinance but you can defend the charge based on your post. That is always best with an attorney but the cost of defense will be much greater than fine. If you are not a US citizen I would definitely explore defense. Otherwise it is a question of your record.
