Is a wife responsible for a contract a deceased husband signed

My husband signed a 2 yr contract with a cell phone co. He recently passed away. I cannot afford to keep the phone service. Am I responsible for the remainder of the contract. I have talked with them and they really don't care what my circumstances are and insist I fulfill the contract.

If it was a contract signed by him alone, it is a debt of his estate only and not a debt of yours. Depending on the status of his estate, they may or may not have funds to claim against but the debt would only go against assets of his estate that goes through probate (meaning assets he owned in his name alone only). If you have questions you should seek legal advice from an estate/probate attorney but I would not speak to the creditors or be duped into thinking you owe this money yourself.
