Can I sue my landlord after falling down the stairs inside my apartment?

Hi, I fell down the stairs leading to my bedroom inside my apartment. My feet got stuck to a metal bar at the top stair and since there is NO security handrail I could not catch myself up and fell down 5 stairs. I landed on my back and could not feel or move my legs for about 15 hours. I stayed 2 and a half days at the hospital.
