Low and pro bono services are offered across Maryland, and vary county to county. You may want to contact the Legal Aid Bureau, Inc. at www.mdlab.org (under the "Contact" page, there are service providers listed by county) for further help.

No, there is no such thing as a Public Defender (or a right to free legal representation) for a family law/divorce case...or any non-criminal case except: (1) if you are in state custody (in prison), (2) legally incompetent (ie, mentally or severely physically incapacited to the point where you are judged by the court to be unable to manage your own basic personal and financial decisions, (3) in some cases where the state is moving to terminate your parental rights so that your children (already in foster care) can be placed for adoption. Normally I would suggest that you contact legal aid to see if they can find you some pro bono assistance. However, if the case is in MD, then you would need an attorney who is licensed to practice in MD. So, I am not sure how much assistance your local legal aid office can provide. But, you can start there, I suppose.

Try to call legal aid in your area and see if you qualify.
