Are you asking about the statute of limitations to file a civil lawsuit against the persont aht hit the car, or the statute of limitations the govenment has to advance charges?

If you know who did it and have proof, you could file a police report and ask for criminal charges to be filed and/or file a claim in small claims for civil damages. If you don't know who hit your car, report this to your carrier and they may also want a police report filed.

For a civil case, the statute for personal injuries is 2 years; the statute for property damage is 3 years.

I agrtee with the first response. You need to know who did it and have proof before you can move forward. If so you can pursue that person oin small claims court but you need to have all your paperwork, estimates and proof or damages ready to go. Most importantly you have to prove to the judge that you person you have filed the claim against did it.
