I believe you posted just a little while ago. I am glad to see you have not included personal information this time. Take a deep breath and slow down a little bit. Panic is your enemy right now, even though you are in a stressful situation, and people tend to do reckless things when they're upset. A person charged with a crime is entitled to an appointed attorney. Fresno has a very good public defender office if you can't afford to hire your own attorney. Most attorneys cannot afford to take cases without getting paid. A serious felony, like murder, can take a substantial amount of time over a period of years. It's as if your boss asked you to work for free for a week out of every month for the next couple of years. Please understand that this is a general discussion of legal principles by a California lawyer and does not create an attorney/client relationship. It's impossible to give detailed, accurate advice based on a few sentences on a website (and you shouldn't provide too much specific information about your legal matter on a public forum like , anyway). You should always seek advice from an attorney licensed in your jurisdiction who can give you an informed opinion after reviewing all of the relevant information.

I know you've posted your situation several ways here on attorneyqna.com. If you're truly looking for a no cost attorney, you should explore the public defender's office if the defendant meets the qualifications for indigency. It's just a matter of economics for private attorneys. Yes, we take cases pro bono on occasion or for reduced fees, but if we worked for free, we couldn't stay in business for very long. Felonies with high exposure take a considerable amount of time and any decent attorney would devote the required attention to the case. Accordingly, other cases would be limited to focus on the big case. Something has to give. You don't want an attorney who's willing to take a case for free or cheap because that's the amount of dedication you'll get.

Assuming your income is low enough - the public defender will either be free or low cost. They are criminal defense attorneys. Matthew Williamson
