Can my employer take back commissions they paid to me for a sale if the business in question does pay all/part of their bill?

I have never signed anything to authorize this. How can they pay me for work that I've done and then take the money back? It's killing my paychecks.
They habitually do this to all of the top sales people in the company. In addition, they also threaten to hold or do hold final paychecks when people are fired or quit.
Thanks for your help.
Tough question. Typically, the question depends on whether you have an agreement on how commissions are paid. if there is no agreement, then it depends on the practice of the employer. On your other question, an employer cannot hold final paychecks.
I recommend you speak to an experienced employment lawyer. Most of us, myself included, will provide a free consultation.
What Gary said is absolutely correct.
More importantly, why are you still working for this company? if your company qualifies the purchaser, but takes out their failure to collect on you, it's not a place that you should be working. Don't quit, but get started looking for a different job. It's always easier to find job while you are employed. When you get the new job, make sure you get your final paycheck, if they want some of that back you tell them - "nuts".
I agree with Mr. Watson and Mr. Friedman. Speak to an employment lawyer and start looking for a new job. Good salesmen are in high demand and you should not be working for a business that does not respect your productivity.
