Old conviction

Immigration 2 views 6 answers
I have a 14 year old conviction that could affect my legal status. I got all the information from this case and unfortunately I was told by the judge about the immigration consequences..is there another way to maybe reopen the case and let me plea to something different other than a CIMT even though there may no be a legal way to get it open? Thanks for any advice.

Unfortunately, the information that we can provide in this forum is very limited as we cannot review the record of conviction and learn more about your case. You need to consult with an experienced immigration and criminal law attorney in your area and bring all the documents with you for a full assessment of your case. Good luck.

You need to obtain an immigration attorney to assist you with this case. Take all your conviction documents for them to analyze. Good luck

You will need to consult with both an Immigration and Criminal Defense Attorney for the answer. There are some important facts missing here such as the exact statute under which you were convicted. A competent Immigration Attorney will advise you of the Immigration consequences (if there is any at all) and advise you of the proper steps to take to preserve your Immigration Status. Good Luck!

This is not sufficient information for an immigration attorney online to provide a useful answer. An experienced immigration attorney in your area should be consulted. I am sure they would be able to offer you helpful advice. Bring along all your criminal and immigration documents so the attorney can accurately analyze your case. Best of luck!

If the convictions renders you removable and/or inadmissible to the United States, then you need to find out if you are eligible for any relief from removal, such as Cancellation of Removal, in case you are served with a Notice to Appear in Removal Proceedings. This usually happens after a person travels outside the US and returns or files an application for Naturalization. Seeking to vacate a conviction requires going back to the criminal court and filing a motion for post conviction relief and may not solve the Immigration issue.
