I now live in another state and it is cheaper and more convenient for me to pay an attorney to appear on my behalf than it is to travel to Massachusetts for the hearing? If so, what is required? An affidavit?

If all aspects of the case are truly uncontested and all necessary documents are properly prepared and notarized, an attorney may be able to have your appearance waived.
