How would someone go about getting custody of a child back that their parents got custody of after joining military?

I have a friend that joined the military to make a better life for her and her little girl. In doing so, her parents were appointed temporary guardianship of the child. after she went into training she was unable to get in touch with her parents to see about her little girl. They had changed their number and blocked her on facebook and wouldnt respond to any letters. Then she comes home to find out that her parents have started a case to adopt the child without her knowledge or consent. Now that being said, my friend has never been addicted to drugs or in any criminal trouble. We did a petition for her not to lose her baby girl and finally she got a court date and the judge denied her custody. She needs help to get an attorney that will fight for her and not seem like they dont care.

She really needs to get an attorney, losing her parental rights is too big of an issue to try to use a general question-and-answer forum as a replacement for legal representation. If she doesn't have the funds to retain an attorney, she can check the local legal aid offices, a loan from friends/bank/ACS, or many attorneys will accept payment by credit card.

I agree with Mr Scholl - this is a terribly important issue and a lawyer should be involved. She might start at the base/post legal assistance office. It would be important for the court system to know how to contact her to be able to serve any paperwork on her as well, eg if the adoption action is in Michigan and she is stationed in California - they need to know where she is stationed.
