I am not a lawyer, do not have "legalese" symbols on my computer. Ques: how do I substitute the symbol(s) with word(s). For Example: there exists a symbol resembling "$" / "&", I believe it refers to "Section", but I'm not sure. Thanks !

You dont need to use an abbreviation, you can justvwrite the word "section" there is also a book called the bluebook, it is a refernce guide for legal abvreviations. Mighy be able to find it online. Finally, when referencing statutes keep in mond that the vast majority of laws are not found in any code or written law, rather they are the body of jidge made law, the legal opobions about statutes and constitutional provisions. The keyboard symbol for "section" looks like two lower case Ss, one slightly higher than the other. In fact, that is how the symbol was typed on a typewriter. Remember typewriters?

You may use the same symbols with a standard keyboard. The § symbol, which stands for "section," is made on an Apple keyboard by holding option and pressing the number 6. On a PC, hold Alt, type 21 on your number keypad, then release Alt. The other commentators are correct, however, in noting that other options exist for conveying the same information, such as "Ss."
