My employer want to take away our "frozen sick time" Is it legal?

I earned sick time for my first 10 years of employment that I banked (almost 500 hours). Then the company changed policy to making sick time part of "time away with pay" which includes vacation and sick time and we received our sick time and vacation time in one "bank". The sick time that I banked in the first 10 years was "frozen" 10 years ago and we can now only use it for disability or short term leave like maternity. Now they are going to take away the frozen sick time without any compensation. Is it legal?

This is not a criminal defense question. This is an employment law question, and if your employer is the State of WI there are a variety of challenges to Act 10 pending. If you have a union, ask your union representative. Otherwise, try reposting this as an employment law question. Good luck.

The only law that protects employees when they are 'sick' or injured is the Family and Medical Leave Act. Some employers have policies providing for paid time off, sick pay, etc and that is a nice benefit. Thus, when an employer wants to modify, alter or completely eliminate such a benefit, it will not be against the law because it was only a generous benefit they chose to offer to begin with. Thus, this appears perfectly legal for them to do.
