What does joint educational decisions mean in Arizona?

My ex husband & I share joint legal/physical custody and he has recently told me that I am not allowed to give my teenager one personal day from school per semester. I have offered this to my son who attends a college prep school and carries all A's & B's,who is philanthropically involved, & plays sports. The conditions of the "personal day" with me are that he must not have a test or game due on the "personal day". My ex has stated that since we are joint caregivers that I must call & inform/ask permission from my ex, while our son is in my care, unless sick, because we are to make Joint educational decisions together. Can he demand this? I thought joint educational decisions ment deciding on a school, or school sport or instrument.

If this "personal day" you are describing is one that is allowable under the prep school administration, you may be able to exercise that "personal day" once a semester during times when you are exercising your parenting without your ex's consent. However, if this "personal day" is really you giving your son permission to just skip class for a day... then your ex has the right to object and insist that in fact your child attend his classes. I would consult a family law attorney and go through your decree or parenting order with them prior to taking any action.
