Can I use quotes I got off the internet from famous people in the book I'm pub for profit if I give them credit as the source.

20+ famous quotes, crediting each author/speaker as the source (Einstein, Hitler, Bernard Shaw, Oprah), under 25 words each. Can I use them without copyright permission as FAIR USE or whatever it would be called. Not using them as endorsments. I got them off the Brainyquotes website.

Fair use looks at four factors: 1. What is the nature of the second work -- your work, in this case? Is it commercial, educational? 2. What is the nature of the original work -- is it commercial or educational? 3. What is the amount, AND substantiality, of the part of the original work used? Substantiality means: how important is it? Taking one sentence out of a book may not be a large amount, but if it reveals who the killer is in a detective novel, it could ruin the experience for a reader. 4. What is the likely commercial impact of your use on the original work -- would your work satisfy the need of a potential consumer, so that no one would feel the need to buy the original? Without seeing what you are doing with the quotes (or even what the quotes are), it is difficult to say for sure, but a pithy quote or two is not likely to have a substantial negative impact on the commercial prospects of the original. Try to add as much original content as you can.
