i am a 56 year old who was charged for petty theft from Kohl's (apx $125 worth of merchandise). I was brought into loss protection office and then police officer came in and wrote me ticket for petty theft with order to appear. How or can i get the ticket off (dismissed) from my record? I have a perfectly clean record and this is a first time offense. Stupid i know!!!! I am guilty but what can i do or say to have judge dismiss it? I am sure I should still plea guilty as I am and do not want to lie to a judge? Can you help me please and suggest what i should say or do? thank you for your time and help M
You need an a tourney. You might be eligible for a deferred entry of judgment or other alternative sentence. This would allow you to take anti theft classes and do some type of community service and have the matter dismissed. Get an attorney.

If charges are filed by the DA, get a lawyer to see if you qualify for a diversion program. Alternatively, if convicted, you can move to set aside the conviction once you have completed the terms of probation.
Unfortunately, you cannot turn back the clock. Instead, youc san protect yourself going forward. You need to avoid a conviction at all costs. Depending on the facts. You may be eligible for a diversion program that will end up with the case dismissed (but not erased unfortunately).
You need a good criminal defense attorney. I'd strongly suggest you find someone who focuses on criminal law and who routinely practices in the court where this case will be heard.

You may be able to complete a deferred entry of judgment program that will result in a dismissal of your case. Contact some attorneys and get some help--many of us offer a free consultation.

Depend on what you mean by "seen". Whatever happens once a case is filed shows up on your rap sheet kept by the CA DOJ. The public doesn't have access, but you could waive your right to privacy during a background check.
A good electronic database background check looks at court records. Whatever happens in a filed case could be found, but some courts are behind the times and fewer records are electronically available.
Diversion can save you a conviction (where available).
The only way to wipe all reference of the case is a "Finding of Factual Innocense". Very difficult to obtain.
