I had a employee tell me her mom had a stroke. She left we called to check on her no response. 2 days later she says mom still doesn't have room at hospital.

That depends on the employer's leave policy. Employers are not required by law to demand proof of a reason for an employee's absence from work.

When an employee seeks medical leave or time off, and when an employee fails to appear for work, the employer is entitled to require the employee to provide proof of the underlying medical (or other) condition.

William pointed you in the right direction with his great response. If you are concerned about this employee's work obligations this is a thing you should probably have addressed this to your general counsel and looped HR in as your brain trust.
