Divorce before entering the military or while in the miliraty

I have been married for three years Recently I declared my desire for a divorce and have begun gathering information to proceed. We are over our head in debt and my wife is not making any positive advancement toward a career path or education. I am done. I have contemplated filing bankruptcy but don't have the money to even review that scenario with an attorney. So I am planning on joining the Navy but I can't have an open civil suit. Here is the meat of my question, how long would it take to process a divorce, where there are no children involved, or if I wait until I am in the military, can I get a divcorce and what legal reprecussions would I face?

If you and your wife both want a divorce, and you act quickly, it can technically be final in 120 days. I'm not sure about the military's take on the Nisi period (the waiting time after you go to court and before you are officially divorced). Talk with your wife and considering hiring an attorney to represent you.

I have represented military personnel in divorce matters. I suggest you wrap it up before you enter. Otherwise you will be required to hand over part of your military retirement/pension and face some other strict rules regardin marital property. I'm happy to talk to you about this situation. It is very possible to enter an agreed upon divorce with quick turn-around. The 120 nisi-period mentioned earlier is not of consequence to your enlistment. www.chancellorlaw.com JC
