Typical immigration lawyer fees for application, filing/reviewing alien spouse forms.

Canadian in country legally for 14 years with TN visa. Married recently to American I have known for at least that amount of time. Presently, I am debating using a lawyer who will provide me with 7.14 hours to file and I assume review application for $2500. He has listed forms required: I-130, I-485, I-765, I-131. This does not include a separate fee of $1490. for USCIS filing or accompanying us for interview. I have no criminal record, BTW. Before I commit, I need to know if this sounds fair or I am going to be overwhelmed with additional fees. I have not signed with him yet but time to shop around is running out.

We can't discuss fees on this forum but that sounds reasonable. I'm not sure how the 7.14 hours was calculated so exactly, but hey! Most immigration attorneys charge flat fees so there should not be additional costs, other than the medical exam. Read the contract and it should spell everything out. In my opinion you should hire an attorney who will accompany you to your interview as that is one of the most important parts! Curiously... why is time running out if the person has been here illegally for 14 years? Take your time, meet with some attorneys, and hire someone you feel comfortable and confident with. Good Luck. There is no 'typical' fee. I must say that I'm surprised that you got away with having a TN for so many years. Keep in mind that you probably shouldn't travel internationally during the 7-12 months that the adjustment case is pending. It is normal for us to not discuss fees ... but, as my colleague pointed out ... most of us charge flat fees. In this case, it looks like you've been given an ESTIMATE, based on an hourly rate of $350 per hour. Be careful, sometimes the estimated fee can 'grow' ... depending on the number of hours actually spent. Thus, it is possible to be overwhelmed with 'sticker shock' of potentially double that amount ... 7 additional hours can fly by very quickly. Yes, the government fee looks correct.
