My husband did not disclose to me prior to our marriage that he filed for bankruptcy, what can I do?

I am concerned. Where are we going to live? I thought we'd be moving into our own house one day, but this has screwed up my visions of our future. He is a business owner and says the big bucks are going to roll in and we'll be able to buy a house -cash. Although I don't doubt he will do well, I feel a lot of animosity and it is ruining our marriage. I feel like I am very critical and cold and judgemental about anything he says or does. To the point where he's suggested divorce. Does his filing affect me? And how? Other than counseling, which I feel is the next step, what should I do legally?

I'm not sure what you mean. He can't make up for the fact that he didn't tell you this and that apparently he misrepresented his financial status to you, and that's a marital issue, not a legal one. This doesn't affect you at all, except insofar as it may still affect your husband's credit rating and his ability to get a loans. It doesn't affect him except for possible residual effects on his credit and it imposes a time limit on when he can file bankruptcy again if he needs to. His failure to disclose the bankruptcy probably gives you no additional legal rights; it is probably not the sort of concealment which would entitle you to an annulment. From both a legal and emotional standpoint, you need to sit down with him and ask him to COMPLETELY and ACCURATELY disclose ALL of his finances with you. That would include an accurate and current disclosure of ALL of his assets, and ALL of his debts, and what happened to his financial affairs such that he had to file a bankruptcy. If he refuses, that tells you something about how he views the marriage. At that point, you probably should go talk to an experienced family law attorney.
