You do not need a lawyer to file any complaints with any government agency like the FDA. However, if you are ill due to the rat feces, or suffered a permanent injury as a result of ingesting the rat feces you may have a personal injury claim against the manufacturer and/or retailer. You are doing the right think by seeing your physician. You must seek medical treatment in order to determine whether you have suffered any permanent injury as a result of your experience. Before you contact any attorney, you should determine whether you have suffered any injury.
This is definitely something you should discuss with an attorney. Be sure to preserve the evidence and all documentation including medical records as these will be very important in proving your case should you decide to pursue legal action.

Seal the remaining product in a ziplock, write the date on the bag with a marker, and put it in your freezer. That will preserve as much evidentiary value as you can. Also, if you have additional cans you bought at the same time, save them unopened.
Your case will however, only be worth bringing if you get very very sick. (I am not wishing that on you, I hope you get better).
