Different alien numbers on OPT EAD and I-797C Notice of Action

I have an OPT EAD card which has my alien number that I entered into the AOS application. When I received my I-797C (Notice of Action) for forms I-485 and I-131, it had a different Alien number. Is this ok?

Yes it is okay that your number for OPT is different than the alien number USCIS issued you for your adjustment of status.

Don't worry! That is normal. The "A" number assigned to one's OPT-based work permit document is always different than the real, permanent "alien number" USCIS assigns to one upon the filing of an adjustment of status application.

It should not be a problem, but always reference to both when applying for future immigration benefits as there have been cases in the past where files have been separated based on the A number referenced.
