Can my renters make me get rid of my dog? There is no lease.

There is no lease and i have been here for 15 years. 4 other tenants have had pets within those 15 years. At first i lived with my parents then i got my own apartment behind my parents apartment. I signed a contract when i fist moved into my own apartment but they never game me a copy of the contract (even when i have repeatedly asked him for one) or a receipt to my deposit. I've had my dog since he was 6 weeks and the owners always saw him then when he turned 7 months he said you can't have the dog here. One of the neighbors (we both had signed a contract and it doesn't say anything about not having a dog) had asked if we can have dogs and they said "you can do whatever you want?
Ask the landlord for a copy of the lease and then read it over to see what it says. If you find the language confusing you can take it to a tenant's rights attorney and they can explain it to you.

If the unit is covered by the City of Los Angeles Rent Stablization Ordinance, the answer is probably not unless the landlord can produce a lease stating dogs are prohibited.
To find out if the RSO applies, contact the Los Angeles Housing Department at:

They can't add something to a lease that isn't already in the lease, especially if they've seen the dog at your place. They may have waived the right to even bring the issue up. If you are under rent control, then you are likely even safer from this new rule. I would find out if you are covered by rent control and also talk to a landlord tenant attorney in your area.
