My wife used me to get her citizenship and now she wants to get divorce

2 views 6 answers
I have been married less than a year and now and my wife deserted me after she got her citizenship (not Green card. I dont know her status but apparently she lived in USA for more than 20 years). And now she found out that she is pregnant. She doesnt replies back to my messages or answers my phone calls and emails. One of her family member told me (who does not want to testify or against her) that her brother did the same marriage to get his citizenship. As of right now, I want to know what are my options. And now she is abusing me to get all the furniture from the house.

Options as far as what? Assuming you are a US citizen, there may not be much for you immigration-wise. As far as the furniture and marital property, you may do well to consult with a divorce or family law attorney in your area.

As far as immigration is concerned, you appear to be out of luck to do anything at this stage. You should consult a family law attorney to assist with the divorce and related issues.

I don't know if I reach the same conclusion about your wife's motive for entering into the marriage based on what you said. It sounds like you should be speaking with a divorce attorney, not looking for an immigration attorney.

I am sure, if you talk to her, she would say you used her for something else as well. It is very subjective whether anyone used anyone and we, here on , cannot determine that.

If she got her citizenship in the months that you have been married, then most likely she would have even if you hadn't been married. It sounds like there are some very deep problems in your marriage, and there's a lot you don't know about each other. It's time either for some marriage guidance or a family lawyer.

If she is pregnant with your child, the chances are she will get her status because the baby is the best evidence of your bona fide relationship. I wrote a thorough article about this issue. Please check out, http://divorce-simplified.com/blog/divorce-and-immigration-some-questions-answered/
