We want to know how much this will cost? Also what extra paperwork is needed? Is it just my husband who has to get the green card then we all follow? We are living in Omaha and have been since May 2014.

If your husband has an L-1, he should ask his employer if the company is willing to file an EB-1 case on his behalf. The rest of the family will be able to also acquire resident status with your husband if the employer is willing to file the FORM I-140 on his behalf. The FORM I-140 can be filed concurrently with the FORM I-485.

If your husband's employer is willing (and that may happen at some point in the L1 tour of duty) then the green card process is very straightforward for an L1A. Far easier than for an H1B. Because many people who convert ti green cards use their freedom to leave the company, employers don't find this attractive early on. Closer to the end, they have nothing to lose. Either they bring in a new L1A or they try to keep the person with almost 7 years experience by sponsoring them. And for a senior manager and executive, that is also a thank you for service. The cost is for the employer as you don't petition.

Hopefully husband is on an L-1A and not the dreaded L-1B for which no GC can be filed.. Husband needs to talk to the employer, and Ian I-140 petition immigrant petition on his behalf can be filed by employer anytime it sees fit to do so. An L-1A is ideal since it has a shortcut to the "green card" , since it is exempt from the onerous and difficult to obtain labor certification requirement. A Form I-140 petition can be adjudicated in as little as 4 months by USCIS and the concurrent I-485 permanent residence application that husband and you and the children will file within 6 months. Most employers absorb the entire attorneys and filing fees on behalf of their valuable L-1A managers/executives. Cheers!
