My father passed away in April and I wanted to know was I left anything?

My brother called me and asked me what was my address because the money that was left over for my dad would be split amongst each child. I called to confirm and see what was the status of this situation and I was told that we had to take 2 siblings to court because they split it amongst themselves. Also after my father passed there was a house that he left and I am unsure of a Will. If there is anyway you could help me find out information about this situation please let me know.
Is there currently a probate proceeding? Was your father married at the time of his death? There are several fact intensive questions which need to be answered. Consult with an attorney who practices in probate law. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
If a Will was probated (processed through a probate court) - then the court should have a record of it. Contact the probate court in the county in which your father resided and inquire with them. However, this may be a case where some of the siblings misappropriated the funds that your father left behind. I would certainly consult with a local Jackson or MS attorney and discuss your concerns. You may either use the 'Find A Lawyer' search, contact your local bar association or google a local attorney. Best of luck!
Mr. Geller and Ms. Stern have provided sound and valuable advice. Contact your brother and ask what's happening in the case. If you are not able to speak with your brother, call the courthouse where your father was resident and ask the clerk of the court how to find out what you need. That person should be able to either tell you whether a case has been filed or point you to the proper person to help you. Good luck.
