i thought the tape would be just for us. but now we have separated and he is threatening to release the tape if i throw him out of my house.

Speak with the police. Most departments have sex crimes investigators. Attempted extortion is a felony. If you aren't comfortable doing that speak with a domestic violence organization.

I agree: this sounds like extortion, and posting such tapes violates criminal law. This also is a violation of your privacy rights, and you can get an equitable remedy to require him to cease and desist.
