How common are alcohol hair tests on probation in Palm Beach County?

2 views 4 answers
On probation for a first time DUI which prohibits me from any alcohol consumption. I have no plans whatsoever to violate this in any way, shape, or form. With that being said, I have heard of really bad experiences from these hair tests from people I personally know, and was wondering how common they were? Please note that I am only looking for attorneys who have experience in Palm Beach County probation. Just trying not to worry about it.

There are no approved hair tests for alcohol. Such tests are done through breath or urine. Hair tests are conducted for other controlled substances. Urine or breath tests can be conducted regularly, often on every probation appointment.

What you have heard is not accurate, is it?

As a former Assistant State Attorney I never saw a hair test for alcohol or drugs for that matter. I agree with my colleagues, there is no such test for alcohol. Hair may be tested to detect drug exposure/use, but it is not commonly done. Drugs are normally tested by urine or blood. Alcohol is tested by breath and blood.
