In 1991 or 92 I was very ill and had to decide to file and pay taxes or try to stay alive. I had just started a new business and put every cent I had in it. I made contact with IRS in 98 and was threatened with jail and public auction. In 2002 I paid a Vegas law firm $10K to help me they did nothing and offered no help or advice. What I going to do? Call the cops? I am now in the VA health care system and draw benefits (TAX FREE) but won't the I POP up on the IRS radar? Now I owe more than I have but I don't want to spend what little of my life is left in court. I just want to die and get a military burial.

This is an unfortunate situation and you should seek the advice of a tax attorney. Not filing tax returns is a crime, and you should consult with the tax attorney to determine what the best solution to your particular problem is at this time. You should immediately engage a CPA and a tax attorney to help you with this situation. It may well be that you owed very little tax, but you must get the returns filed as soon as possible. You may find that your old tax debt has passed the statute of limitations for collection. I am sorry that the Nevada law firm did not help you. There are a number of programs, such as the Offer in Compromise program, that may help you, but the first thing you must do is get the old returns filed. Please consult competent tax counsel immediately.
